Need Input from American Kabuki Readers

I'm getting a lot of requests for meditation instructions.  Unfortunately I am somewhat of a newbie at this my myself!  I've had my own ways of coming to be centered, but I certainly have as much to learn as many of you do.  I have no doubt many of my readers are better at it than I am.

If you know of any good web sites (preferably FREE ONES) that have good instruction in basic meditation techniques  with as little culture specific baggage as possible.  I want to compile a web page of resources that people can utilize to help them with learning to meditate.

I would also like the sites to be as religion and dogma neutral as possible.  I know each spiritual discipline has its own techniques and that's something people can explore within their own cultural context. I am seeking sites that newly awakening people, many with no prior spiritual training, will find accessible to their existing frame of reference.

If you can help please add your thoughts in the comment section and I will use those in create web page about meditation.

  1. When I read this text, I had a great idea to make a universal guide to meditation without dogmas and religions and as neutral as possible, I will do it

  2. This site has had 2.4 millions hits in only 2 years. Why ? Check for yourself who is Inelia Benz.Have a look at the video section of her web page./ Now, the meditation she guides (in audio but the transcript is there too for free) is soooo basic, efficient. The meditation is called: Cleaning the Collective-Imagine a world without fear. It is in the tools section but also right at the front page here: http://ascension101.com/en.html
There is also a 5 min meditation and a longer one.

Thanks a lot for your blog and info !

  3. Sites are easy enough to google so I'll add in my own thoughts and methods for meditation... I like to go for walks and observe nature because I find it easy to forget my mind and be in the moment there. I've heard focusing on a candle flame flicker works for some, though I never cared much for that method myself. I also like to let water stream over me while I sit in the shower :P

Music of course is a good one to meditate, or rather vibe out too. And I like Kelly Howell's website with meditations (4 free) and visualizations. Petting an animal or doing a favorite activity where you lose yourself is as good as meditating, sometimes even better in my experience. I've gotten into some of my deepest wildest flow-type-mind-opening experiences while sober and doing some things I /really/ enjoy.

  5. I like to go to www.channelhigherself.com. He has hundreds of free videos. (Lincoln, channel for higher self). Just search "meditation" for those videos, or any particular interest you may have for a channeled "satsang". There are articles, too.

It is VERY doctrine free, even stripping off much of what has attached itself to Buddhism.

He has been doing this since at least 2007, and has about 300 regular youtube viewers presently. He doesn't change or modify his bare-bones approach to garner more viewers and "likes," and still puts in an obvious amount of effort into making his work available.

Thank-you for taking my input. I certainly endorse the above for consideration by anyone interested in investigating their deeper spiritual self.

  6. I found this to be a really simple, easy way to slow down and find a single focus... not to mention that deep breathing will shift your energy flow in your body. Having an external focus to give your brain something to "do" is a good place to start. Also, these guys are really great, and are doing a really positive thing on the planet right now to bring about Unity Consciousness... in their goal of getting 1 billion people to breathe in unison on 11-11-11

    http://doasone.com/

I would like to add that it's a very difficult trick of our minds when embarking on a meditation practice in the early stages, whereby we can get stuck in the idea that we are supposed to "still" our minds.

I would like to clarify that there are many accomplished meditation masters that report that the goal isn't "no thought" from the outset... but rather the goal is to, over time, become more aware of how you get swept up in your thoughts, and the key is NON JUDGEMENT.

You will notice as you continue to practice, that you will get swept up in the stream of your thoughts (as we all do... this is the nature of our minds/ thought streams), and the response shouldn't be one of judgement or feelings of failure... rather, this can be viewed as mini moments of liberation... you have noticed that you were swept up in thoughts... HOW WONDERFUL!!! This is an achievement! ...and the opportunity to bring your awareness back to your breath. This is the opportunity of meditation... that we are aware of the river of thought and can bring our attention out of it, whereas in our daily tasks we usually let the mind wander unobserved.

Over time the mind becomes more still as a SIDE EFFECT of sustained practice, and the key is NON JUDGEMENT and simple observation of when the mind is swept up in the river of thoughts. Non judgement is so important in the ability to keep up a practice, and thus achieve the benefits of meditation over a period of time.

Breath awareness is a great focus that has served me well. I hope this is useful... peace and blessings to All.

  7. I like to wake up early around sun rise and pray to the east. I thank God for everything. Then later in the afternoon i do a meditation. I repeat a mantra called the Gayatri which is hindu in origin but is actually very neutral. It acknowledges the word om but then names all the realms. Afterword it acknowledges the prime creator and asks for enlightenment. I find it is a great way to find discernment amongst the static of misinfornation.

If you search youtube for gayatri mantra, it is the video with shiva on it. The blue guy.

its in song form, and u will feel it right away as something that is part of you despite your religious background as did I.

    One love.

  10. Dear AK

I recommend Deepak Chopras meditation: I've shrunk it here. Also google "Golden Key" by Emmet Fox. 4K a week attended his NY meetings in the 30s.

    THE MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

The Mindfulness Meditation technique is a simple meditation procedure, following the breath, that can create a deep state of relaxation in your mind and body. As the mind quietens down, but remains awake, you will experience deeper, more silent levels of awareness. Following the breath gently trains the mind to observe without trying to take over, without wanting to be in control of the procedure. It keeps it occupied and out of the way while an inner healing can take place without its interference

    1. Start by sitting comfortably in a quiet place where you will have a minimum amount of disturbance. Straighten your back, place feet firmly on the ground, hands palms up on your lap. Close your eyes.

    2. Breath normally and naturally, and gently allow your awareness to be on your breathing. Simply observe your breath, trying not to control it or alter it in any conscious way.

    3. As you observe your breath you may notice that it changes of its own accord. It may vary in speed, rhythm and depth, and there may even be occasions when your breath seems to stop for a time. Whatever happens with your breathing, innocently observe it without trying to cause or initiate any change.

    4. You will find that at times your attention drifts away from your breath and you are thinking about other things, or listening to noise outside. Whenever you notice you are not observing your breath gently bring your attention back to your breathing. If during meditation you notice that you are focusing on some feeling, mood or expectation, treat this as you would any other thoughts and gently bring your attention back to your breathing.

    5. Practice this meditation technique for 15 minutes. At the end of that time keep your eyes closed and just sit easily for two or three minutes. Intend to bring your consciousness fully into present time, and focused your awareness in the 3rd Eye, in the centre of the forehead. Allow yourself to come out of the meditation gradually, slowly, before opening your eyes and resuming your activities.

=It is recommended that you practice this meditation for about 15 minutes twice a day, in the morning and evening. Later you will want to increase the time you spend in meditation, enjoying the peace it brings you. You may also use this technique for a few minutes during the day to calm yourself if you are feeling upset or agitated. However, at such times it is recommended that you first use the Hara/Holon protocol to centre yourself, re-establish your connection to Earth and Source, and reinforce the protection the Holon provides. (Ref. www.the2012countdown.com for full details of the Hara and Holon protocol).

During the practice of this meditation you will have one of
three experiences. All of these are quite correct.

    1. You may feel bored or restless, and your mind may become filled with thoughts. This is an indication that deep-rooted stresses and emotions are being released from your system. By effortlessly continuing with meditation you will facilitate the removal of these impurities from your mind and body.

    2. You may fall asleep. If you do fall asleep in meditation it is an indication that you need more rest during the day.

    3. You may slip into the ‘gap’. When the breath becomes very settled and refined you slip in between thoughts, between sound and breath.

If you stay rested and take care of yourself, and take time to commit to meditation you are bound to get in touch with your Inner Self. You will tap into the Cosmic Mind, the Voice that whispers to you non-verbally in the silent spaces between your thoughts. This is your inner intelligence, and it is the ultimate and supreme genius that mirrors the wisdom of the universe. Trust this inner wisdom and all your dreams will come true.

  14. I find the key is patience with yourself. Take your time and don't judge yourself, there is no right or wrong way to meditate. It's really about just letting go- stop micromanaging everything and just allow your heart to lead your head. It's tricky because it's so simple- the mind wants to say "Aha! So that's it!", but that's not it. Your mind can't ever hope to really "get it", so stop trying. It's about a place you go, a feeling, that's different for everyone (and every time). You'll know when you start to get there, and when you do you'll want more and more. Because it can be better than any drug!! And unlike a drug there's no hangover, unless you count feeling really, really damn good as a hangover. Give yourself TIME and PATIENCE. I've been doing it for about 3 years and still feel like I'm barely scartching the surface.

  15. Hi there

I wrote up a no-nonsense, easy to read guide on what is known as the Chakras. I put this together for my friends, as I could not find any unique or even accurate information on the Chakras online.

The guide assumes you have some basic understanding of this energy system, and furthermore it does not offer how-to guides on how 'activate' or 'balance' chakras - only information on what they are, and what they represent.

These will all be updated again soon when we hit another significant numerological date.

  17. Eckhart Tolle, wrote a wonderful little book: 'Practicing The Power of Now' ~ the essential teachings, meditations, and exercises from his best seller "The Power of Now".
On Page 1 ~ Chapter 1 ~ Eckhart describes the importance of Feeling one's Divine Presence, which he calls 'Being' (his preferred word for: God, Goddess, Creator, All That IS, The Source Field).

Feeling the Divine Presence within includes feeling the breath, the body's inner activating energies, e.g. tingling of skin, heart beat, just holding up your hand and asking it:'are you alive'?, gives you an immediate Feeling of your Divine Inner Being...known lovingly to many Enlightened Saints and Sages as their Divine Presence.
The key word to this meditation is FEELING. As you sit comfortably, or lying down, eyes closed, and simply FEEL your inner-outer body sensations, doors start opening and your awareness increasingly expands in depth and breadth.

You are in DIRECT FEELING CONTACT w/ SOURCE~PURE SPIRIT...THAT which ASCENDS when you take your final 3D breath.
As Tolle says, the more you practice this simple physical FEELING, eyes closed at first, then when going about your regular day,
when speaking to people, just have that slight turn inward...and More Will Be Revealed:)

    1. IMPORTANT!!!
      Ingrid almost certainly meant tomkenyon.com
      - the website for sound healer Tom Kenyon. His
free meditations have become the primary basis
of my own daily meditation practice.

      Kenyon's material is eclectic, utilizing
      Buddhist, Taoist, Egyptian, Hindu, shamanic
and channeled sources. My own favorites are
the meditations provided by the Hathors,
      the interdimensional beings channeled by
Kenyon. I agree with Ingrid that the sound
meditations at this site (some originating
with Kenyon himself, others with the Hathors)
are powerful. All of the sound meditations
      come with directions, are downloadable,
and are free. The link to these:
      http://tomkenyon.com/sound-gifts

      Other meditative practicies, not utilizing
sound, are also described in some of the
      Hathors' channeled messages found elsewhere
on this site. Fnding them requires wading
through quite a bit of (profound) written
      material, however.

Another caveat: the meditations found at
Kenyon's site vary from quite simple techniques,
to rather complex visualizations. The more
complex ones often come with a simpler variant
      for less advanced practitioners.

      ALSO RECOMMENDED

A very good all-around introductory site is
      ABC-of-Meditation.com
      Link:
      http://www.abc-of-meditation.com/beginnermeditation/

The site includes articles on the purposes
of meditation, its benefits, different types,
the history of meditation, and many other
topics. It is a non-sectarian site, and is
largely geared for the beginner. (One essay
did mention chakras without explaining what
      they are.)

The article “Meditation Types and Techniques”
is especially geared for the beginner, and
contains links giving further information on
      Concentration Techniques; Insight Meditation;
      Contemplation and Self-Research; Meditation
      in Motion; and Goal-Oriented Meditation.

Useful, since there are many methods of
meditation, and a range of motivations for
engaging in it. Meditative practices which
suit one individual will not necessarily be
a good fit with another person.(I am much
      more adept with concentration-based techniques
      than with insight meditation.)

      Peace,
      Sue

  26. I am probably newer to this than any here including yourself. But with that said, I came across meditation almost by accident. I was on a Edgar Cayce kick, and in attempt to recreate his experience I read up on self hypnosis. Now my method and intention has changed quite a bit, but the techniques used in self hypnosis still are very effective at silencing my mind. As far as sites for meditation go, A.R.E. is Edgar Cayce's organizations web site. It is not free, but I found it well worth the money. I believe that it was $40, you get package with your astrological information that is 40-50 page booklet that is all on you personal information plus access to all the readings and information that he and his organization put out. I did it just for the readings, they have keyword search that goes through all the readings and pulls out what you are looking for. There is very interesting things in there just from a researching stand point, such as the location of buried treasure he gave to some people during readings. I will also share one of my interesting experiences in meditation. I had been in meditation for about 20 min (the time it takes me usually to get clear) and my arms and hands started moving to different positions on their own, say from at my sides to over my head and back. I meditate laying down and this experience is not unusual for me, but this time something different happen. My arms went from my sides to over my head then when they came back down my hands placed themselves in a very specific form on my lower stomach. I tried to ignore it but couldn't completely, and finally I said whatever you are doing go ahead and do it, you have my permission. After that my entire stomach started to burn and tingle inside, and the more I gave way to what was happening it increased. This continued until I stopped, and when I did my wife was real upset because I had been "under" for about 4 hours. I have never had that experience again but it was both exciting and frightening. My other curious experience was just after I had finished I got up and laughed uncontrollably for a good part of an hour and was running around silly like a 3 year old. My wife thought I had went crazy for a while, its very hard to explain to someone who doesn't understand. Anyway, best of luck to you and your spiritual journeys. I just started a blog at breakingthetrance.com, I only have a few videos posted at the moment, some of them a little more on the negative side than this crowd would like to deal with. But the last one I posted was with Lydon LaRouche speaking on a credit system that they have come up with to replace the debt system. It is interesting because many of the points he has made seem similar to the ones that have been talked about on here and with Drake. He also has a video of an in depth discussion on it where he gets into the creative power of humanity while citing the classical music where you actually here a musical note before it is played and that is their intentionally by the composer.
Keep up the good work, I always come here when I need a little positive boost from all the bad news out there.

  29. it starts with the breath, prana, and the posture, asana. first find a sitting position that is most confortable, and try to stay in it for for longer and longer periods of time. then focus your attention on and slow down your breathing, which has four parts, each need to be extended, like learning to streach. touch your tongue to the top of your mouth while doing this as it helps with the electric current. the next most important part is where you are looking; direct your sight directly behind and above your eyes, that is to say, into your head and up to your crown chakra at the top part of your head which the hois called 'the soft spot' and is indeed soft in infants.

  38. AK, when i was young i learned a technique that is very simple. You pick a word
like light or love any word you like. You train your mind to concentrate on your word, tho you may get caught up in thoughts, gently bring your concentration back to your word. Thoughts are like birds, you cant stop them from flying over your head, but you can keep them from making a nest in your hair. As you learn to come back to your centering word, it may be the next morning while you are brushing your teeth, remember to repeat your word gently in your mind. Soon, which took me only three days, it seems your conscious shift is to your heart area, the atman. Soon you will be able to stay or center very easily. This helps to learn to go into deeper states of consciousness, after all, its just all consciousness. With practice, you can learn to stay centered all day long, unless you get caught up in all the drama. We are all in the process of a great remembering of who we really are!
so staying focused can be very helpful through these transitional every now and Zen times. This also helps you listen to your heart better!

This is a chakra meditation series i created using real bowls, which can help also.

  40. Wow thank you all for the resources, it's great.

I just wanted to add a little thing, in that as much as i do love some of the guided exercises, i find more important to find my own. I think meditation lies in developing one's connection to the source, realizing one's divinity. This can be done via doing anything. Filling people's head with specific rituals seems a little like the religions saying they have the only way to divinity. Like islamic cultures saying you have to be towards the mecca, hindu or catholic saying you have to say certain words, etc. In the end we wanna find the power in us, not looking outside for it right ? But that doesn't mean we don't interact with the outside.

Life offers many experiences and the key for me is to connecting them back to the source. Walking in the forest looking around can be meditation. Playing music or any art form can be meditation (and technical abilities don't matter). Listening to music or watching art can be meditation, like this great movie 'Baraka', for me just watching this was a great meditation.

The aim of it all for me is to feel your oneness with things, therefore realizing that you are God. Not in the sense that you are God as opposed to the outside world. In the sense that all is God. This is what ascending is right ? We're learning that we create our reality, as we move through the dimensions we manifest instantly like they did with the pyramids, we become one with other souls, ultimately we are conscious of all. We realize we are one, therefore we are God.

  42. I would like to share that simply breathing slower will change your brain waves and start calming you. Then you create an environment which invites more peaceful thoughts.

When breathing in, push your abdomen out. This is how babies breathe naturally. Growing up, we learn to shallow breathe from the upper chest, but we don't get enough air.

The prana/chi negative ions of health from the vacuum are right there in the air we breathe.

The hard part is resisting the temptation to remain stressed. Strange isn't it? It's like we are addicted to stress.

We get used to being in crisis mode, but solutions do not come from panic. We have to find a way to calm down. With practice, we can learn to seek peace first, then deal with the stress.

    Simple but not easy.

  43. First put your hand on your heart and feel your heart beat.
Breathe in for the duration of 2 beats. hold it for 4. then breathe out for 2 beats. then hold that for 4.
    rinse and repeat.
You can do 242 or 363 or 484 depending on whatever you are comfortable with eventually working towards 5 10 5. I still can't do that after many years, I don't even try to get that much.

After practice you don't need to hold your hand to your heart, you can just feel the heartbeat as your body calms down. This exercise is just to engage the ego.

The real work lies in the visualization, this is the work of the adept.
I don't know why no one has mentioned the white light technique to you, it is the most basic and advanced form of grounding.

You want to match this with your breathing, so imagine a while god light coming down from heaven into your crown chakra. breathe in. hold it. breathe out, as you breathe out the white light fills the crown chakra. Hold it. breath in, visualize the light going from crown to third eye chakra. hold it, breathe out, visualize the light entering and filling the third eye chakra, hold it.

Keep doing this until you reach your root chakra. Visualize the color of each chakra and the white light making each chakra brighter and brighter, eventually you will be able to see the blockages in yourself, and others just visualizing them.

Once you light up all the chakras, connect the white light from god source down to the core of the earth, and connect the top of the white light to the core of the central sun or our sun if you wish.

Imagine energy coming from the sun or heavens and bringing it down to earth, imagine earth is in the conversation giving you her own energy for you to send back up to the heavens. At this point you are just a conduit.

Imagine the two energies meeting at the heart chakra, and then creating a white light bubble or field around you. Once you meet the two energies expand it as big as you can
Cover your house, then your neighborhood, then the whole planet. You will be able to see fear or block energy as dark or black and eventually you gain the ability to transmute it back into love, or golden christen color, or a yellowish white hue?

At least thats what I see.

Now when you get good at this, you can walk around people and start lifting fear and sadness from people, and actually transmute it. You will be able to see noticeable changes in the actions and emotions of others. I don't know how far you want to go with this technique but the sky is the limit. It is also a prerequisite for becoming a healer.

Although I'm nowhere near as well practiced.

  44. IN ADDITION TO MY PREVIOUS POST:
This is important too. but you can't just do it you have to feel it, and be it. not just think it. IF that makes sense. You have to feel that love. feel it. and if you can't feel it, make believe you can feel it, and eventually it will happen.

10.14 Questioner: For the general development of the reader of this book, could you state some of the practices or exercises to perform to produce an acceleration toward the Law of One?
    Ra: I am Ra.

Exercise One. This is the most nearly centered and useable within your illusion complex. The moment contains love. That is the lesson/goal of this illusion or density. The exercise is to consciously seek that love in awareness and understanding distortions. The first attempt is the cornerstone. Upon this choosing rests the remainder of the life-experience of an entity. The second seeking of love within the moment begins the addition. The third seeking powers the second, the fourth powering or doubling the third. As with the previous type of empowerment, there will be some loss of power due to flaws within the seeking in the distortion of insincerity. However, the conscious statement of self to self of the desire to seek love is so central an act of will that, as before, the loss of power due to this friction is inconsequential.

Exercise Two. The universe is one being. When a mind/body/spirit complex views another mind/body/spirit complex, see the Creator. This is an helpful exercise.

Exercise Three. Gaze within a mirror. See the Creator.

Exercise Four. Gaze at the creation which lies about the mind/body/spirit complex of each entity. See the Creator.

The foundation or prerequisite of these exercises is a predilection towards what may be called meditation, contemplation, or prayer. With this attitude, these exercises can be processed. Without it, the data will not sink down into the roots of the tree of mind, thus enabling and ennobling the body and touching the spirit.

  46. Here's an easy technique that allows you to be relaxed while active, building your powers of intent and visualization.

The first step is sitting comfortably and simply closing your eyes. It is not recommended you lie down, as you will most likely fall asleep. Just rest there a few breaths. Notice your breathing without changing it. After a minute, begin to breathe using diaphragmatic, or yogic breathing- using your stomach as a bellows to pull breath in and out of your body. Once you have stabilized your breathing pattern, become conscious of where the tensions are within the body. Notice any tension in your face, jaw, neck, shoulders, etcetera, and relax any tension consciously. Allow your body to fully relax, allowing the energy to begin to flow.

Envision the flow of energy moving freely throughout your entire Being, down through the top of your head, to the base of the spine, and out through the bottoms of your feet. Connect this flow of energy with your breathing; with each In-breath envision the flow entering the top of the head and spreading throughout the body down to the base of the spine, and with the Out-breath envision this flow going out the bottom of the feet into the earth to be recycled and reinvigorated. This is the cycle of receiving and giving.

When accepting the flow of energy into the top of your head, envision it first as a rich golden color. The golden energy moves into your body replacing any energy you have, filling your entire Being with a golden glow. Envision the golden energy flowing through every nerve, artery and vein. Begin to see your body emanating a golden glow, and the glow increasing in size after each In-breath. Continue to breath in a round-about fashion, envisioning the golden energy flowing through you and out your feet, pushing the glow a little further out from your body with each breath, until you feel renewed and fully energized. If you do not think you have the ability to envision this glow emanating from your body, just pretend you feel it, glowing and pulsing out from your body. You will eventually catch up through your intention to envision the golden glow. In other words, fake it till you make it.

Once you have established a round-about breath and feel energized you can slow your breathing and begin to experience the feeling of just being a glowing ball of golden energy.

    How often does one meditate?

You will need to dedicate some time, preferably each day, to experience your receptivity. The length of time is up to you. Initially you may not be able to do it for an extended period, so begin with 5 to 10 minutes, building to 20 minutes twice a day. Once in the morning after awakening and in the evening around 5 or 6 p.m. - prior to the evening meal.

Meditation in the morning is particularly good, because you can integrate your dreams and inspirations from your sleep into your conscious awareness. After you awaken to your alarm, rise, relieve yourself and splash a little water on your face. Try not to linger in front of the mirror, in fact, do not look in the mirror if at all possible. Go to your meditation spot, settle in, and relax into a meditation. It will set the tone for the entire day.

There will be days when you simply cannot get into a good relaxing meditation. Do not try to change it or force it. It will become increasingly difficult as you force it. Accept it for that time, and know that the next meditation will be deep and restful.

  47. Hey guys!! I have a question i wanna ask u all. Have you ever felt that while meditating when you relax your body, your spinal cord seems to bend a little? This happens to me all the time. Can anyone help me out with this. Is it necessary that the spinal cord be erect and straight at all times and even if bending occurs, it has to be straightened in the middle of meditation????

    1. I have gotten this sensation too, mostly in my upper back to my neck, like my head is crooked but its not. Maybe it has something to do with alignment, I know Edgar Cayce used talked about back alignment a lot in his remedies and solutions.

  49. I agree that to "still the mind" is difficult - at least for me! So, the way I "meditate" is to play solitaire. It keeps my mind busy, and out of the way, and allows inner thoughts to come up. I keep a journal handy, to record those thoughts that I feel are pertinent. I've had most of my best insights playing solitaire!
