(AP Photo/The Orange County Register, Stuart Palley)ANAHEIM, Calif. – For the ninth consecutive day, protesters rallied against police in Anaheim, California issuing a call for peace in the community as tensions continue to boil over between Latinos and authorities.
Police arrested at least nine people in separate marches Sunday, as some 200 vocal protesters rallied in front of police headquarters, while a separate group of about 100 people marched silently along a two-milestretch of a main thoroughfare, The Orange County Register reported.
This wouldn't happen to white people. This is racism, simple as that. - Eduardo Perez, a 21-year-old student
"What's going on here in Orange County is symbolic of a problem with the system," Eduardo Perez, a 21-year-old student, told the Register. "This wouldn't happen to white people. This is racism, simple as that."
The other group was dressed in white and remained silent as part of their call for peace. They walked five-people across, shoulder to shoulder, some carrying messages such as "We are Anaheim" and "Peace begins with us." City Councilwoman Kris Murray and state Sen. Lou Correa, a Democrat who represents Anaheim, were among the marchers.
At least nine people were arrested, Police Sgt. Bob Dunn said. Most face minor charges including failure to disperse and blocking traffic, but one woman is accused of attacking a clerk at a mini market.
She was held on suspicion of assault and battery, Dunn said.
It was the ninth consecutive day of protests against police. The demonstrations occurred hours before an evening memorial service for Manuel Díaz, a 25-year-old man who was shot dead July 21.
Some marchers attempted to join the service but were turned away by organizers, who had hired their own security team, Dunn said. The evening vigil was peaceful, he said.
Police said Díaz, who had a criminal record, failed to heed orders and threw something as he fled police. He was unarmed.
The night after Díaz was killed, police shot to death Joel Acevedo, a suspected gang member they say fired at officers following a pursuit.
The shootings ignited four days of violent protests, culminating Tuesday night in hundreds of demonstrators surging through downtown. Police said some in the crowd smashed the windows of 20 businesses, set trash can fires, threw rocks and bottles at police and damaged City Hall and police headquarters. Two dozen people were arrested.
The Orange County district attorney's office is investigating, and the U.S. attorney's office and the FBI agreed to review the shootings to determine if civil rights investigations are warranted.
A group of demonstrators rallied peacefully in front of Disneyland on Saturday.

Did i read that article correctly...they executed a youth who was already handcuffed by shooting him in the back of the head...and the "FBI agreed to review the shootings to "determine" if civil rights investigations are warranted....WTF!!!
ReplyDeleteIf ANYONE in the USA thinks they are living in a democracy...you're on crack!
Are we Awake yet?!
Yeah...I was listening a major LA AM radio station interviewing the best friend of this guy, and it was astonishing what he said happened.
DeleteThese guys need to be tested psychologically before they are ever put into uniform. This was blatant disregard for life.
Very little of this got into San Diego or National TV news. If you didn't listen to LA radio you might not know anything about it. Orange County is only 70 miles from me.
Of course, it's only whites who are racist.
ReplyDeleteActually quite a few whites are getting the same treatment from police, it doesn't have much to do with race anymore.
DeleteIts a bunker mentality, us against them and we are "them".
Yes! And it is quite widespread. We spent years trying to get the truth and threw a trial that ended in the conviction of excessive force. The Spokane police beat, hog tied and suffocated a developmentaly disabled man. Of course the police lied and said he was threatening the officer which was just plain stupid since it happend in a convenience store and there was a security video. Only one officer has been tried while those that assisted have not been brought to trial. Google and you will find it happening everywhere.

yep, while everyone is distracted with football, olympics, the Kardasians and a six pack...the Gestapo have taken over without even a whimper.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to remain positive, but the writing is on the wall here, its history repeating and the USA is now Germany 1933 (but with some incredible fire power and technology in the hands of the government) that makes Hitler look like a girl scout!!
if people don't actually wake up and get off the couch, it may already be too late (i pray not), but despite what all the "channellers" are saying, im not convinced we deserve to be saved at this point, we are just as responsible, all of us, for allowing this to happen.
I fight to the end, but i hope the end is not near ;)

I live in Minnesota, and this is the first I have heard about this. This is unbelievable! I haven't seen anything in the news at all. We need to get the word out.
